Vocational training projects:
On the basis of a project idea by the Angolan Government which allocated USD 4.2 million to vocational training initiatives, a new concept paper, resulting from an assessment mission in November 2007, proposed the construction of vocational training centres (VTC) in the domain of agriculture in two provinces: Province of Bié and Province of Kwanza Sul.
The main objective is to enhance the capacities of 120-180 students per training course in a one – to two years curriculum cycle. Beneficiaries shall be small farmers, rural youth and demobilized, male and female. Short, modular courses regarding specific skills demanded in the agricultural sector should be offered as complementary measures to improve the general knowledge. It shall, on the outcome level, improve rural life perspectives (livelihoods) and increase employment opportunities for rural population. On the overall level, it shall boost the local economy and contribute to the national agricultural output.
Upon adoption by the SHP representatives of Angola and Switzerland, a tender will be launched in the first months of 2008 in order to select an implementer in charge of the project management (coordination and execution of the project).
Mine clearance projects:
The mine clearance project aims to strengthen the national mine clearance operators so as to increase Angola’s response capacity in the field of mine clearance. For this, it is important to enlarge both the mine clearance equipment available for national operators and respective training for best use, so as to enhance effectiveness and sustainability of mine clearance operations. Thus, the project in the field of mine clearance will concentrate its funds for the acquisition of mine clearance equipment and the formation and training for its appropriate deployment in the field. The operational priorities follow the National Mine Action Strategy and, more concretely, the National Planning for Mine Clearance.
